Abstract

|
With the role of University for the community, the volunteer program of the University for the community has been criticized. The purpose of this study is to examine changes in university students` perception toward the aged and the awareness o supporting after the volunteer program for the frail elderly. After participating volunteer program in University, the results show the effect of the volunteer program, as follows：① participants had：significantly more positive attitudes toward the Aged and higher awareness of supporting on the Aged. ② the motivations to volunteer are changed after participating on volunteer program, especially for the social and protective motivation. It means that the students had more social benefits and more introspection after participating on the volunteer program for the frail elderly. ③ Each of six motivation(value, social, career, understanding, protective, enhancement) to volunteer affected differently on attitudes toward the aged and awareness of supporting on the aged. Therefore, it is needed to develop different programs for the different motivations to volunteer. As a conclusion, we suggest several implications for future research and policy of University students` volunteering based on these results.
